People with privilege believing things that don't affect them are "political" while things that do are "real".

Also, the idea that conservatives are not telling people how to “think and feel” when they are quite literally trying to FORCE people to BE particular ways is hilarious (in the grimmest blackest form).

I feel bad for his students, getting a shitty education. No wonder so many people never read a book after high school.

I just... What kind of English did he teach? Did he ever touch on Animal Farm? 1984? To kill a mockingbird? Brave new world? Middlemarch? I'm citing boring old classics here, I'm sure his curriculum must have touched on ONE of them. Hell, anything by Woolf? Idk. Dickens? All of those are propaganda?

I love your anger, it's such a justified and necessary emotion in this situation! ❤❤❤

I wonder who is benefited by neutralizing books.

Someone once proposed that every cartoon in New Yorker magazine could be captioned “Christ, what an asshole.” This man deserves to have his sketch in New Yorker.

And they want to get rid of the department of education. 🙄 God help us all. 😞

How does an ex teacher not know this?!

Why on earth would anyone *want* to ignore the ideas reading raises? Making the reader think is the difference between mental candy floss I read once in an airport and books I cherish and read over and over again.

He's expressed an idiotic opinion. "The Left" will never ever die. We will never be done. Humanity will forever lay bare political inequalities through brilliant novel writers' works.

He should have thought about it first before he opened his mouth⚛️❤️

I don't think he'd like 1984 or Animal Farm or V for Vendetta or of course the handmaid's tail

Ugh, I once heard a fellow teacher call The Joy Luck Club propaganda. I felt that it was both inaccurate and ignorant to say that! I had no idea where they were coming from. Sorry you are getting those kinds of comments.

Why would you want to disregard the polticts of art!?

Even if its poltitics i don't agree with understanding the author is vital to understand the art on a deeper level.

I read this guy's whole comment and it's so weird. His main point is that writers should only imply their views but not express them directly. Otherwise, it's not artistic but propaganda. But, the thing is, there are plenty of artistic works whose message is fairly obvious and plenty of mediocre books that attempt to carry their messaging through implications.

And, honestly, an implied message, at least to me, can be even more of a propaganda because it's something hidden. It's almost deceitful because you think you're getting one type of book, but you're actually being fed something else.
