I have used RAIDs in my work computer for over 5 years. My current system is a 7TB RAID 5. I can tell you from experience, that the KEY component of any RAID is the hard drives. Do not get cheap drives. Get the very best the market offers. I've never had data loss. I keep two spare drives in case of failure. I'm building a RAID 6 NAS for my personal home use because it is really the only way I can be sure my data is safe.

would you know anything about configuring a bios or setting up a intensive game server?

for raid 10 you say data is mirrored and then striped over drives. But on the diagram behind you it shows raid 0 first, means data is striped first, then it shows two raid 1 couples, means data is then mirrored. So in raid 10 data is first striped and then mirrored right?

@TijmenDal if you consider raid 10, you got to think about it first
having raid 10 means having at less 4 drives
meaning you have to buy 4 drives, and also quadruplicating the chances of failing
but if your data is important at the same time that your speed is also, that a great thing for you, but if your looking at a home way of doing it
get 1 240GB cash SSD for your HDD witch can be all the way up to 4TB
cash means that it will put all the resent things in the SSD

i have to agree well explained and made clear..
i have a huge question:
I would like to run my ssd drive as a boot drive
and 4 2tb drives in raid 5 or 3 tb drives on raid 0

how? and is this possible?

Wow, that was really useful. Now I finally understand all this bogus about RAID, haha. Might consider getting RAID 10. Sounds like the way to go.

Can you also tell us the speeds of RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 2, RAID 3, RAID 4, RAID 5, RAID 6, RAID 10? also you didn't talk about RAID 2, RAID 3, and RAID 4.
Also is it possible to use RAID over a network or/and the internet?

Hello I have a question maybe you can help me
A server admin has been asked to build an array for a low performance application, the array must support hot swaps and automatic rebuilds with minimal performance degradation during the rebuild, the admin only has 3 disks and a controller which is the best to use?
A:Stripping with no parity
B:Independent disk with dual parity
C:Bit level striping with parity
D:Stripping with mirroring
