Konstantinos Maleas, a key Post-Impressionist Greek painter of the 20th century, passed away on April 4, 1928.

Born in Istanbul, far from Athens’ artistic hub, he studied architecture before moving to Paris in 1901. There, he trained under Henri Martin at the École Nationale des Décoratifs. After returning to Istanbul in 1907, he traveled the Near East, drawing inspiration for his renowned landscapes. In 1917, he settled in Athens, directing the Museum of Folk Handicrafts and co-founding the ‘Techni’ artists' group.

His work blends Impressionism, Neo-Impressionism, Fauvism, and Symbolism, with landscapes dominating his art.

To honor his legacy, we highlight ‘Landscape with Hills and Sea’ (c. 1918-1920), from the A. G. Leventis Gallery’s Greek Collection.
