I used to work in a leasing office and we usually gave back the entire if not most of the security deposit back. People were only charged if they left trash or there were large holes. I definitely think some places scam you on that stuff because you shouldn't even have to have your place deep cleaned. The complex should be the ones hiring a cleaning company.

highly recommend grocery shopping with your partner when you move in together! make a shared list that you can both access and update (like when you run out of something, add it to the list!) and talk about meals together. I handle most of the grocery shopping for my little household now, but I trust that my partner can do the same if I’m unable to take care of it that week. Make sure to supplement Squirtles dog food if you plan on home cooking! It’s fine to trial it without supplementation but if you want to long term home cook for him, you should look into supplementation :)
