Why is this #aircraft carrier catapulting fake cars?

Although they may seem massive in size, aircraft carriers aren’t long enough for planes to take off. Instead, aircraft carriers use catapults to generate enough speed and momentum to launch planes into the sky. The USS John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier is currently testing a new catapult system, EMALS, by throttling fake vehicles weighing up to 80,000 pounds into a nearby river.
