So, you don't think kids shows used to have politics, huh? Well, here's an old episode of Rugrats about baby's first labor union and how boys should be allowed to wear dressies if they want to. We've been talking about this stuff for a while now.

The Rugrats get political, in a way only Rugrats can!

"Angelica's Last Stand" is a favourite of mine, primarily for its strong political subtext.

I interpret it as Angelica being the greedy higher-up overworking the underpaid/enslaved babies. It sounds like something the animation industry has been experiencing lately.

Wait wait wait this episode is 27 years old? Dear God now I feel old. Thanks for that.

Did anyone else find it interesting that an episode revolved around Chuckie and Phil together?

There's a scene in one episode where Phil puts on Lil's bow. He cries, and Betty comes in and soothes her "sweet little girl", then calls Lil her "big strong boy". Don't remember which episode it was, though.

I wasn't a big fan of Rugrats but I always respected how they handled complicated topics in a way that made perfect sense to kids. One of the best ones imo is the episode where Chuckie's pet bug dies and he goes through all the stages of grief

As a man who has worn a kilt on occasion (I'm not Scottish, but a character I've played in a LARP is... well, a fantasy version), I have to say, they are insanely comfortable in the summer. They allow the soft summer breeze to hit your thighs (I didn't wear them commando because for some reason my boys are a magnet for boffer weapons, so a cup is necessary) feels amazing in the summer heat.

Steve Ochs wrote some episodes of Rugrats from Season 4 to Season 9 and wrote an episode of Crashbox and Recess

Coincidentally, just 47 days later, the Rugrats (Chuckie, Tommy, and their dog) would be part of a three character oversized balloon at the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, a first of its kind as well as for the network, Nickelodeon itself. My recommendation is to check out Pop Arena's composition of Nickelodeon at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade which displays the network's evolution in the parade from its humble times on horse and buggies to the mainstream in bigger than life balloons and floats. They would make 4 consecutive appearances in the parade.

You forgot my favorite part of Clan of the Duck: Chucky going through a hora, and when Phil asks what happens, all he can say is "The Hora, the Hora" like he's going through PTSD like in that one movie.
Followed by a rimshot.

The one joke I remember from this ep is Chuckie gets caught up in this dance, and Phil finds him and asks what happened. Chuckie: The horror, the horror. *cue rimshot.*

People saying that you're reading too much into this reminds me of the episode of Rocco's Modern Life where Heffer joins a cult. "If there be one among you who does not follow the way of Schnitzel, let that one go and do not throw bowling balls at them." Rocko, like you, is just interpreting the themes of the text from the text itself.

That look on Lil's face at 2:47 slays me. Like, she's a toddler who plays in mud amd eats bugs and stuff and even she thinks Angelica's excuse smells suspicious.

4:51 — “Joe” Cooksey? The screen says Jon.

The fact that the main channel re-aired this in 2011 is amazing, they new how to adjust to new times.

And consider Betty now it shows...

I’ll credit watching these episodes constantly as a kid as to why I’m so pro-union and pro gender exploration today

This is my favorite looking era of Rugrats, the 1996-1999 cel animated episodes. I do enjoy the more surreal, offmodel and fluid nature of early Rugrats, but the colors here are so vibrant (unlike some other shows of the era, and early 90s Nicktoons) for the time while still looking filmic, and most of the characters have their designs refined (i do like pre revival Susie better). On the other hand, i prefer the early Simpsons look, even though the later cel animated episodes still look good. Both shows still look good on digital ink and paint though.

Yeah when I got up to this one upon re-watching the series I knew exactly why it was on the sample platter list, two based stories for the price of one,

i generally feel like rugrats gets a lot more hate than it's really earned; it had some pretty solid episodes, and these two are a good example!
