The gold earrings pirates wore were meant to be payment for anyone who found a washed up pirate corpse on the shore to bury them

Not so much out of the pirates' love for rum. Rum was often loaded onto ships along with fresh water and food. Rum was an essential source of nourishment because it preserved far longer due to its high alcohol content. For this reason, it was a necessary evil for long voyages. Often, when the clean water had run out, rum was the only drink available. This is where many legends and tales of "Drunken Pirates" originate.

The thing about the jolly Rodger is completely wrong. That particular flag was used by a single pirate and the flag most feared was red with an hourglass. Meaning they give no quarter and your time is up

The only pirate that used the jolly roster was not very well known compared to similar legends. The flags that were used by the most fearsome pirates like black bears often were red to signify the color of the ships decks after battle and had an hourglass to show the people who saw the flag that their time was almost up

"What are the pirates doing, captain?"
"They're... playing banjo music."
"Oh no..."

Actually, the jolly roger was the flag of one pirate crew

Rum was used as a "currency" because of its value. They would sell it not drink it. Also, the black flag pirates used wasn't an indication of no mercy, infact pirates would rather their prey give up and take their prize without bloodshed. I don't know where you get your info but its mostly wrong.

Legend has it, Pirates were the first to genetically use night vision and face recognition with that patch to navigate from starboard to bow in the darkest night 🌑💀🗿

Another fun fact. Sailors use to wash their clothes in urine and seawater. The combination of the two would get their clothes "kind-of" clean as they couldn't use the ships fresh water supply. And going to shore to find a fresh water source was very dangerous. Cannibals, malaria, wild animals ect. and being anchored in shallow water with half it's crew, is when a ship is most venerable to attack from other ships. Only the Captains where given the luxury of a fresh-water bath and that was only once a week. That is why you see the nobility or "gentleman dandy" with a snuff-box in sailing films sniffing or taking a "bump" on occasion. It was to mask the smell of the nasty sailors around him, it wasn't a narcotic.

If you ever needed an example of these videos being nonsense, this would be it. What makes me sad is there are morons who actually take these videos as fact and will use it to shape their 'knowledge'.

As a scallywag, I can confirm that I drink 10-30 liters of rum every day

The myth busters did the eyepatch thing and they found it was incredibly useful so I imagine sailors working in a storm at night or fighting without lanterns etc would use this and be glad they did

The eyepatch trick was next level. You really don’t want to be blind into the dark.
