Maybe Southern parents have changed. My sister and I quickly learned to never say we were bored. There were always more chores to be done around the house. And, that was our parents cure for boredom.

Five minutes later my son is cleaning the bathroom. For some reason after that. My son never mentioned being bored again.

Do not ever say "I'm bored" to a southern parent (or grandparent). Gardens don't mulch themselves, garages don't clean themselves, and there's at least 6 areas in the house held together by duct won't fix themselves.
