Here’s how to pick head lettuce #shorts

Head lettuce is one of my favorite produce items from the garden. Here's how you harvest it!

My favorite lettuce recipe is my mom's. She takes several kinds of lettuce, some sweet, some more bitter and cuts them similarly - several cups per person. Chops garlic to our taste, which is a lot. She puts a little neutral oil, grapeseed usually, sautées the garlic on medium low and when it's nice and nutty, puts in the lettuce. She immediately removes from the heat to let the lettuce wilt. Add salt and fresh cracked pepper. On the table she has a selection of vinegars to use to your taste.

If you just pick leaves from the outside it'll keep going and growing- youll have more lettuce longer(if you dont have a whole bed full) 😉

Or you can just pick individual leaves and it will grow back, as long as you don’t pick them from the very bottom and leave some of the leaf still there

I did not know Merlot was head lettuce. I’ve been harvesting it as a leaf lettuce.

How do you conserve them ? As you have a lot of lettuces and of different varieties, I was wondering what are your tips on conserving and if you gave them away ?!

How do you propagate your heads of lettuce? I've always wanted to grow some. I live in Canada so it get really cold up here. I don't really know where to start. I've grown tomatoes before and some other plants but never lettuce.

It seems like they’re all ready to pick all at once which was my mom’s problem last summer. Then she was “stuck” with so much lettuce and had to give some away (yay for me lol). Is there a trick to not have it ready all at once? Can you leave them a little bit until you’re ready or do you plant them at different times?
