Because PG stated in an interview that he wanted to have a tribute towards Kobe on his shoe. Hence, the traction of the PG5 is a direct tribute to the KB9.

The fact that the traction is on a PG, doesn't surprise me, I know Kobe was his favorite player, I believe it was a tribute. I dont think it was a Nike decision. It had to be PGs in my opinion.

We're already on the 5th generation i remember getting my PG2's in 2018

This shoe is pretty excellent as a player. I actually really love the padding and comfort. Really good lock down in the heel and excellent lateral stability. They have an almost "memory foam" type feel once your feet sink in. Great traction, great support and great cushioning. The only downside would be the aesthetics of the material qualities in the upper, but it's hard to knock that with the price and performance. If they used some suede and nicer finishes and it cost another $25 it would be worth it. Either way- love these. Best playing shoe I have tested since my Kobe 8's. I'll be buying more of them.

The Hyperdunk 2017 also has a very similar traction pattern to the Kobe 9 and this PG sig which is also an amazing traction on a basketball shoe

Finally Nike, FINALLY. I have two Kobe 9s, the all star colorway and the detail colorway. Both shoes soles have split opened, heartbroken but I'm happy to finally see Nike bringing back that traction! Hopefully they bring back the Kobe 9s too, one of my fav Kobe's to play in !

I just bought a PG4 to see how it does and actually liked it. It can be worn all around. This PG5 looks nice but ill wait for a different colorway. Great review as always! Thanks.

This is what change me back to nike (for this shoe only) from buying adidas and puma basketball shoes. I stopped with the kd13 because I just didn't see a reason to buy anything from nike anymore had bad experiences with some of my shoes blowing out. and traction melting away even on indoor courts. So glad to get these and make my life better lol. Thanks for the review and love the b roll.

The PG 5 has what the Kobe 9 outsole/midsole didn't have. A torsion device! The PG logo appears to add necessary rigidity and support that I didn't get from the Kobe 9. Because the Kobe 9 had that drop in insole, I was able to put the carbon fiber insole from the Jordan 18 underneath, which gave me the support that I needed and also killed a bit of the dead space at the top of the shoe. My Kobe 9 Elite is not Elite+. Keep doing what you're doing Chris.

I feel like the PG line has been nikes best Team shoe until the 4... That was an odd choice when you look at the rest of the line up. These 5s look like they will bring everything back full circle and be a go to shoe for a lot of players. Looking forward to a performance review on these.

just shows how great the kobe 9 really was. yesterday you uploaded the puma all pro and compared to the kobe 9s and now the PG5. Maybe have to get both as the kobe 9s are my all time faves
