Some Democratic lawmakers are calling for Rep.-elect George Santos, a Republican from New York, to resign after he admitted Monday to lying about his career and education background. Some Republican groups are also withdrawing support amid questions over his claims of his Jewish identity. CBS News political correspondent Caitlin Huey-Burns explains what could come next for Santos as he prepares to be sworn in to Congress.

It was NOT embellishment . It was right out lies. If he is sworn in, this will be a true reflection of the moral depravity within America .

As a republican, he didn't admit to lying he got caught lying, that's a big difference. He needs to go and the governor needs to appoint a replacement until another special election can be held.

"Resumé embellishment"
"Conspiracy theories"

Just call them what they are . . . lies

There is a difference between embellishment and flat-out lying. His "sorry" also stands out. The tone of it says he's not sorry. He sounds very snotty when he says it, like a child who is forced to say sorry to a sibling when they don't want to.

How do you knowingly lie to your constituents about who you are, admit it to the public, and still have enough integrity to be sworn in as a congressmen. Despicable. Those voters deserve a special election.

There is a BIG difference between embellishing and lying on one's resume. Saying that one has 2 college degrees is NOT embellishing, but outright LYING. There are no shades of gray on this.
If he gets away with this without consequences it's basically saying it's ok to lie your way into anything in life. Our kids are watching...

Not one Republican has spoken out against him. Silence is tacit approval.

“I’m not going to make excuses for this”, proceeds to make excuses for this! Priceless!

The fact that he refers to his lies as "résumé embellishment, " should tell you all you need to know.

If you lie like that on your resume and get hired, you would be terminated as soon as your employer found out. Why doesn't this apply to congress?

I agree. He needs to either step down, or be recalled and prosecuted for fraud. Simple as that.

You can tell Mr. Santos has severe psychological problems. He wants to be somebody but this is not the way to go about it. Where does his money come from?

Can you imagine if he’s a Democrat? All Republicans and Fox News will voice their opinions

People don’t flat out lie on a resume about everything on a resume.

How is it possible that this string of outright lies did not come to light during the campaign? People who voted for him based on those lies need to flood his office with messages to do the right thing, tuck tail between his legs and resign.

I'm a retired security officer and every place that I put on my resume as part of my employment history was called to verify everything I put down as part of the application process with a new employer.
I am seriously asking the question everyone should be asking including members of his own party." How did we not verify anything about this man before we threw support to him as a candidate? ".
And I find it really interesting how silent his party members are about this revelation., Both set of facts should speak volumes to the voters that voted for him and support the party in that area right now.
