Change your oil, change your oil, change your oil every 5, 000 miles and help eliminate this problem. Excellent video, you make things clear !

I watched many videos on youtube they were all useless. Your video is perfect why? Because while you replaced the timing chain you explained everything very well and the video is clear and not fast or cutting off the important parts. Well done!

Really helpful video..I've just done my first timing chain on a Mini All4 ..the top guide had disappeared into the sump and the chain was running on the bolts that hold the guide ..luckily it still drove ..😮🤞🏻

THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THIS OUT THERE. MY X5 DIESEL 2014 NEEDS THE TIMING CHAIN REPLACED AT 120K MILES. THE BMW DEALERSHIP ESTIMATED ME FOR 14K TO DO. MY CONCERN IS THAT MY VEHICLE WAS VISITED FOR MAINTENANCE BY ONLY THE DEALERSHIP. ACCORDING TO AN OUTSIDE MECHANIC THAT SPECIALIZES ON BMW DIESEL, HE STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE OIL CHANGE WAS BEING REPLACED BY THE COMPUTER READOUT OF 10K MILES. IN ADDITION, THE STOP AND GO FEATURE CREATES TENSION TO THE TIMING CHAIN….LIKE HOW MUCH ARE YOU SAVING ON DIESEL FUEL WHEN CAR SHUT OFF FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS BEFORE IT TURNS ON TO PROCEED WITH DRIVING?? MY VEHICLE WILL BE FIXED AND WILL NOW GET OIL SERVICE EVERY 3, 500 MILES.

I think we should say pin wear not chain stretche oil changes are the way to avoid this problem nice job thanks for the video its not a bad job when gearbox is removed but is a shame they put the chain in the back of engine they are great engines apart from this problem

Good video, love that engine, used to have an F15 with an N57, got rid of it before that job needed doing which was a real shame

Great vid. Much clearer and more precise than others I've seen. Are the torque specs and processes the same on both n47 and n57?

Also, does anyone know if there's any variation on the Mini cooper diesel N47?

I thought you tighten the cam sprocket bolts once you time using the fly wheel locking pin. That handle you use is in a different place to the flywheel one ?

Thankl you very much chief your video is very informative. And thank you again for putting me off buying one I never knew the timing chain was at the back of the engine. I think that had been designed by a disgruntled kraut who worked at BMW and was ready to leave the company. Also just heard about the front headlights being coded for a specific car WTF.

Woody is that tool you are using for holding the crank just the one that sets the pump timing at the 45degrees before tdc. I thought the main pin type locking tool thst goes through the cover plate and into flywheel is what needs to be in for setting crank to cam timing? Thanks Sam

Great video. But have you also set the high-pressure pump to the correct position?
