Technically he was following the old trail of Thorin Bilbo and Company…then Sauron’s pull led him to Mordor

You mean to tell me 17 years pass in between the time Gandalf seals the ring in the envelope and when he shows back up?

The fact that Sauron let Gollum loose shows me that Gollum was a very interesting creature.
One of the most Evil and Selfish beings to ever exist, decided to let him go. It is even implied that Sauron tortured Gollum himself.
Yet he did not kill him in the end.
There was this concept of Pity, that Tolkien tried to showcase on the Hobbits.
Could it be? Gollum was such a pathetic creature that even the Dark Lord himself showed pity for him? He felt pitiful for such a wretched creature that decided to let him go.
Probably not out of good. But because he had never seen someone so inferior to him, someone so corrupted by the ring that the lust for power became actual love for the ring.
Sauron probably found it amusing. So many Great Men have held or desired this Ring, yet the one that spent the most time with it was a filthy creature with no ambitions or desires other than being left alone.
For the first time in his life Sauron felt pity.
He let Gollum loose. Besides his life was bound to the Ring. Letting him live would inevitable bring the Ring to him.
Little did Sauron knew, that while he was right. The Ring hated Gollum. So much it would have prefered its destruction over Gollum.
After all Sauron poured all of his Malice and Evil into the Ring. Meaning that the Ring was actually more Evil than Sauron by now. Meaning the Ring never felt pity for Gollum.
If anything it hated Gollum for wasting so much time and potential.

If Gollum HAD come to Fylke? how had things gone then?

I think Gollum actually began looking for the ring not too long after losing it, maybe waiting a few years to avoid the goblins, but he didn’t know where to look, so all he could do was roam around for the next several decades.

But how did Gandalf knew who to look for in the first place? Bilbo told him about Gollum?

Why didn't Gollum start aging again after losing the ring like Bilbo?
Bilbo aged very quickly after giving up the ring but Gollum who was over 500 years old doesn't seem to have aged any at all since losing it. Does the ring keep you alive so long as you don't willingly give it up?
