Once I had 6 greyhounds! I live in india (origin of greyhounds) but 2 years ago! My youngest greyhound dog Rafale sacrificed himself while protecting my family from dacoits! He was shot by dacoits! I miss him!

I adopted one of these beauties three weeks ago. Her race name was XJT Rain On Me. She is a gorgeous fawn brindle girl who is 2.5 years old. She is a joy and we love her very much. She loves to walk in our back field and kicks up her heels sometimes and shows us how fast she is ha!

I had an old retired greyhound. He had a badass little green number tattooed in his ear.

It has always been a dream of mine to adopt a racing Greyhound! I remember when I would watch them race on TV. It's my favorite entertainment.

My family got approved to adopt a racing greyhound by the name "Tax Slayer." I can't wait for him to come home :).

I've never been to Greyhound race but I'd like go sometime. I do dog sitting as a side job and I just finished a sit with a lovely Greyhound. First time ever sitting one. Very gentle and calm dog. I learned a lot about Greyhounds from him.

The most surprising thing to me is really how little endurance they have. They are truly sprinters and they give it 100% for the time they run but when they are done they are done! This dog slept most of the day and only required about 20 minutes of exercise twice a day to stay in good shape. He's 7 years old and retired in 2019 from racing. His new owners adopted him. As far as I can tell he shows no signs of ever having been abused and seems overall well adjusted to life in general.

For his exercise he has a big front yard that's fenced in where he runs laps. It's so funny all I have to do is throw a tennis ball and he runs and chases it and when he gets it he doesn't bring it back he keeps it in his mouth and runs his laps!. He still likes to run.

My family’s first dogs were two retired racing greyhounds. We used to board them at their old track, and their faces would absolutely light up and their tails would wag the moment they saw their old trainers, who were also excited to see them again. What people like PETA and all the animal rights activists will never understand is that these dogs are never happier than they are when they’re running at full sprint. That’s what they were bred for, and in that moment it’s completely natural to them.

Not all people who race their dogs are the same! See so many people saying "racing dogs is animal abuse". And I agree, to a certain extent, there are some who force their dogs too keep running and abuse them, others who love their dogs and treat them as professional athletes. Y'all cant say ever single person who races is an animal abuser, but there are a few. Just like their are bad people in ANY group, see so many peta people screaming at dog owners now days they never stop to think and realize not all owners are the same, smh.

Dogs like this have been bred to run, and I would think they have adapted to enjoy running. Imagine being able to run at 45 miles an hours, wouldn't you if you could?

Side note: There are amateur tracks all over Europe where owners take their dogs to let them run for fun and to maintain the breed's basic instict in order not to lose these ancient noble creatures or make them completely disappear. There is no money in the amateur races, but on the contrary, the owners invest money to see their dogs enjoy what they bred for: chasing and hunting. Do they bad people? I would be surprised if you prove that they are. Most of the people who lives in the cities (and who alienated form the nature), have usually zero knowledge about the breed's history, they know nothing about these events and the breed but they raise their voice about smth that they do not understand.
There are bad owners in professional races (so not in amateur races) as the money matters there, but today the number of these ppl, the cruelty per se is much lower in this sport than it was 20-30 years ago. Some of the commenters just make their biased over-sensitive judgement due to the lack of knowledge. The sighthounds (so not just the greyhounds) bred for hunting by sight hence the name "sight"hound so they have an instict to chase the lure or anything that runs really fast and have the similar size as a hare. Funny thing that sometimes my sighthounds would like to chase down small dogs (from far distance) who has the same size as a hare, but when they realise that the "object" is not a hare or a prey animal, but on the contrary: another dog, they turnd to be simply surprised and stop the chasing. Of course there are a few greyhounds who simply just fail to turn on this basic instinct but you do not have to worry as they simply do not run on these tracks and competitions. No. Most of these are not killed (unfortunately there are exceptions, but we should not punish everybody and overgeneralize based on some cases as you generally hurt a lot of ppl who have a good intention and just a few who have a bad intention. Look, there are better methods to stop bad ppl doing it without hurting the good ones). They are mostly adopted. There is no reason to run them in the tracks. With other words: you cannot force a sighthound to run. Either their instinct can be turned on at some point or not. Try to educate yourself. We live in the world of internet, so you can find a lot of texts about the breed's history and the basic instincts if you want.

With the protests and stupid organizations like PETA you force to disappear greyhounds as after adaption none of them bred further so the bloodline is narrowing down, and only the show dogs' bloodline has a clear future, but they are quite different (even if they part of the same breed). Are you happy to make one fantastic (and the fastest) breed disappear? I would bet no. You do not care about it at all. Maybe because you are ignorant, you do not think that the colorful world should be reatained and not uniformized based on your narrow experience and thoughts, you do not think that the broad variety should be maintained in a good manner. That's why you might be on the far left side as you do not believe but just in collective truth where there is no exception based on ages, context, environment, individual... etc. However there is.

A lot of people alienated from the nature so much, that they do a lot of harm due to their lack of understanding and knowledge, and due to the fact that they humanize animals. Say something wrong about the amateur races! There is no reason to highlight that it is about the money, because there is no money in it. Then what would be your objection? They forced to run there? No (I covered it above why). They drugged? Some of them might be in order to make their owner's proud (look, everywhere you can find bad ppl... everywhere in the world), but the ratio of drugged runners are much much lower than the ratio of obese dogs at the owners who treat their dogs like children (who tend to overprotect and overfeed). Funny that you do not raise your voice against the owners who handle their dogs as children even though they do more harm and abuse more the dogs in these days than the dog racing industry altogether.
