Bro, Nexus 4 just seems like a quick cash grab by Refx. It doesn't make any sense for them to charge as much as they are for those little changes. Great review bro!

I agree %100. If that $99 upgrade price is actually a sale and they increase it, that will be the nail in the coffin.
The hackers have their knife and fork out and will end up cracking this thing wide open.
Why would they want to piss off all their loyal customers? I invested a lot in Nexus 3 and this is a big disappointment.

I’m not gonna lie nexus has been my go to plug-in for a long time. Nexus 4 wasn’t a huge update but the changes that were made did have a big impact on my experience. I wasn’t too upset by the price because I use it so much and it’s worth it for me. I definitely understand being upset about the price if the changes didn’t affect your production process though.

I'm actually more interested in what plugs were used for the music at the very end of the video - nice!

I remember when nexus 3 came out and I got it. And then literally 2 years later, I was like wtf? Didn't we just upgrade?

Do you see the Korg Triton, the HALion, the Falcon, the ZENOLOGY, the Sampletank 4, ...
Oh my god Nexus 4 is the biggest scandal this year just sitting next to UNISON

Bro Thanks again for bringing this information. To be honest, Nexus has lost its way a long time ago especially in the department of sounds. I've abandoned the ship and exited stage door 27. As for Waves the same thing. I joined plugin alliance and slate digital and soft tube for plugins.

The only thing difference I noticed is the ability to change the tuning like to Arabic, Turkish, Chinese. I am not sure Nexus 3 had that. I could be wrong but I used it for a while and it didn't notice that feature.

One free sound set with version 4, makes the upgrade $49. There may be reasons like piracy with version 3, which they may not disclose. And always there are free upgrades when V4 is developed. So no worries. Only pirates need to worry.

I love this plugin and have been using it for more than a decade. But I'm with you, I don't understand their move of going from 3 to 4 with such minor changes.

You can't even trial Nexus .. that says a lot to me .. I asked if they could give me a temp licence so I could test it on my system and they said no .. so I bought serum instead .. by the sounds of things I'm glad I never went down the Nexus route now .. 🤪

Honestly, Nexus is lame for a good decade. There was a period few years back when I heard that chorusy plasticky "grand piano" patch in every other EDM song. You could make a drinking game about it and get wasted. The reason companies like Waves, ReFX or IK charge for minor changes is simple. It's the same reason why companies like Adobe or Avid went for the subscription model. They are all stuck with a large pre-existing user base that already uses their stuff and they struggle to attract new guys, as those are the first ones to explore cheaper (and sometimes as good or better) alternatives. That means they need to think up a way to cash on that pre-existing user base otherwise they die. In other words they can't count on inventing a wheel or fire every year. That just doesn't happen. This is their way to hack that.
I much rather like for example Arturia's or NI's approach. Does the codebase for their synth-sims and Kontakt libraries differ significantly each year? No. Not at all. But they still manage to re-use that in a new way every time, so you as a customer are actually paying for something new. A new emulation, a new library etc...

I've already upgraded to Nexus 4. The only difference it has done for me is open up additional expansion packs. I like Nexus in general. I will not condemn ReFx on this one slip up. But I totally understand where everyone is coming from. As DDS said, its very possible that Refx was looking for a cash grab on Nexus 4. Me personally, I am an explorer of sound so when I have the opportunity to see what new expansion packs have and see how I can integrate them into my music production, I think of it as a win. Regardless, thanks for the honesty and review.
