Eskom's Stage four rolling blackouts expected to continue throughout the weekend

Stage four rolling blackouts is expected to continue throughout the weekend. The power utility said that rolling blackouts would be more erratic because of the absence of the buffer normally provided by diesel-generating capacity.

Eskom earlier in the week said its diesel budget had been exhausted. The highly indebted power utility says stage four will continue until further notice and it will provide an update when there is a significant change.

Renewable energy is far from cheap, if it were, you'd not have so many countries dragging their feet on it. Renewable energy is better for the environment, but lets not be dishonest when trying to encourage adoption. Republic of South Africa is having enough of a hard time without taking on, yet more, unsustainable burden. They need to address electricity shortages with the currently available technology, transitioning to renewable sources should wait until they can guarantee stable supply and have the funds available to enact said transition.
