We've been through like 5 of these shut downs already. Like, haven't learned what's going to happen? Nearly nothing the last two to three times iirc.

Not completely true. This "discretionary spending" includes the pay checks of the military which is stupid. We still have bills and Ive been put through 2 or 3 shutdowns, one of which was almost 3 months and I still had bills but no pay check. Yes you get it when the government reopens, but the lenders, electric, mortgage, water, phone and other bill companies dont care. It still goes on your credit and things get turned off. Its extremely difficult when it happens on deployment and you have no way of contacting all of these people to explain.
Not to mention our federal retirement from certain jobs. They really don't care about us.
