How many devices can connect to a router?

Most of the wireless routers and Wi-Fi access points say they can support up to 64 devices connected at once. This Wi-Fi connection number includes computers, cameras, tablets, mobile smartphones, appliances, and a wide variety of other IoT devices. However, even if you can theoretically connect close to 48 devices to a single Wi-Fi hotspot you shouldn’t do it. Every device connected to your wireless network is going to decrease the total available bandwidth. The reason is because all these devices will be sharing the same internet connection. Even if you have a very fast internet, 48 devices will definitely eat it all. The problem is not the wireless connections but rather overall traffic accessing your internet router.

This is incomplete/bad advice. The video is assuming that all the connected devices are constantly using lots of traffic. But if they are IoT devices that only send a few bytes of data every couple of minutes then bandwith is not a concern.

I am having that problem now. My office has about 80 devices that consists of desktops/ laptops/ smartphones/ printers/ mesh managed by a single router. The symptoms is not loosing internet speed. But rather it is very difficult to get IP address assigned to devices that are connected late in the day. It will work if i type in IP address manually. But would prefer the router to DHCP it.

I assume the ISP provided router cannot handle such demand and traffic. I am looking at replacing that router with expensive gaming router or commercial business router. Both cost about the same.

My wifi router supports up to 17 devices, how do I increase that? I need at least 30 people to connect to the wifi if possible.
