Let's Play No Man's Sky in 2024 with Renfail as he talks about his favorite thing in the game as a new player in 2024. There are a LOT of things to do in No Man's Sky, especially with the Worlds Update Part 1, so it's tricky to narrow it down, but this is his favorite thing to do in No Man's Sky as a newbie.

I think my favourite thing about the game is that every time I log in I can just do what I feel like doing that day. Sometimes I just want to build. Other days...I'll explore. One day I logged in and decided to drive from one base to the other in the Colossus It took me over an hour. Just because I could. And I had to avoid potholes and caves and every so often I had to navigate around giant canyons.

Other days I'll log in and decide "I"m going to pick a fight with some sentinels." And on other days I'll diligently work my way through my ever-growing list of quests. And sometimes I'll jump in the freighter and just follow the line, hunting for the elusive, perfect, paradise planet.

Its the freedom to do whatever I want that I love the most. I get to escape into the Usborne Book of the Future for an hour or so every night.

Hopefully, at some point, you get a chance to complete the Artemis quest line, it's probably the 'main' quest, so to speak. All I can say without spoiling anything is 'very touching'. You will be stunned

A couple tips that many of us learned the hard way.

1. Terrain tends to return after you've cleared it causing tunnels to fill in. Try to avoid digging through terrain to place important base parts as it will become very difficult to manage. I have a base built inside a mountain that gets overrun with terrain semi often. Sometimes it's fine but sometimes for unknown reasons, usually when the game gets an update, the mountain terrain comes back and I have to clear it out again.

2. Connected to terrain regenerating, trees also seem to come back and often when they do, you cannot clear them as you saw, there was no hit box. Try to walk through them and you'll see what I mean. When choosing a spot to build, avoid building where you have to destroy trees or other foliage. Also consider building one level higher to avoid things like grass regeneration. Hope these tips help. Love following your NMS journey.

Also, I don't know if it's a preference for you to have your flashlight on but you can turn "auto torch" Off in the general settings or in the sub menu you can Toggle flashlight to off when it turns on.

"The Engoodening of NMS" is a true classic. Looking forward to that reaction!

The music is also procedurally generated. It's awesome how a lot of it blends well together. Not to mention the No Mans Sky soundtrack. Awesome stuff. 🤟

That reaction video is going to be a blast. I rewatch The Engoodening from time to time to have a laugh

Absolutely loving your take on things and enthusiasm!

With regards to building down through your island, probably just do some checking on the current state of terrain regrowth. It's been a bug/feature from the earliest days where edited terrain "regrows" essentially. That would mean that the subterranean portion of your base becomes inaccessible.

Perhaps have a look at some of the cave systems in on planets. These can be beautifully lit spaces, free from the planets hazardous effects and large enough to build a base in without doing any terrain edits. And sometimes the cave systems goes into the water if it's close enough to a shore line.

While in your ship, it's super satisfying to look around with the right thumbstick. Especially when entering or exiting atmosphere and seing the curvature of the planet as you go.

Every time I start a new save, as soon as I’m sustainable I spend a solid 3-4 hours chasing only buried treasure modules. This unlocks the majority of the game for me. They’re basically a currency and this gets the majority of this currencies content out of the way. After that you’ll only have to deal with them if you want decorations or money.

Good to see you're enjoying the basebuilding Ren, it's also my favorite.
One thing you may want to do is collect quicksilver. It is used to buy base decorations & cosmetics. They are special missions at the anomaly (the top mission) and are offered once per day that reward 400QS. You can stack 3 days backwards is you missed the mission that day. The missions re-roll every 10 minutes on the 10 minute mark if you don't like the offered mission.
There is also a weekend mission. It's just like the regular missions but offers 1, 800QS. This one does not re-roll though. All these missions can be done solo or in Co-op. Sometimes Co-op can be buggy so I personally do them solo.

Can’t wait to see how your base evolves! I’ve seen so many base showcase videos here on YouTube that have inspired me to build, I just don’t have that creative vision to make a cool looking base. So for now, I’m living in my square box base. 😂

Main freighter was also what caught me, and what made it even better was when i recruited specialists to handle things, and recruited small frigates to dispatch on missions

The aspect of the freighter how it's a hub for your ships and you can actually use it to warp is my favorite part of the game!

I just got a destroyer the other day and it's like starting the gamer over for the first time.

Tip: The entrance to the freighter base area is the one that is lit up with the distinctive fluorescent lights. It is also the one directly across from the teleporters to the hangar.

I got turned around all the time too until I realized!

Definitely exploration for me for NMS.

But my most played game by far is Space Engineers. Which is basically a building sandbox like minecraft by for sci fi and everything actually works and flies. I love to build my own ships to spec and fly them around. NMS doesn't really do that sort of thing to the detail I like. If I could grab space engineers building systems and dump them into the fantastic world of NMS I would die happy because the ambience of NMS is amazing. There's a living beautiful world there to engage with where as in space engineers you have to try and mod that in.

Door with green steps leads to freighter base. You should look up freighter base builds. Imagine a open air garden that you walk through into your Freighter base rooms on the other side.

hey just a tip/suggestion.. You said at 6:59 that you intend to use the Cylindrical rooms to extend down into the ocean to connect to an underwater base... there's a simpler, cheaper, and more elegant way to do that. There exists a short range teleporter pad you can build and connect to another pad, and it lets you teleport between them. These devices only allow travel around on your homestead, they're not long distance portals. But this method would let you have a teleport pad up on your island base, that zips you down instantly to your under water base. No physical connection needed! up to you though of course.

I just found my first sentinel ship atter beating the 5 star frigate in space, and oh boy has that opened a ehole new can of ship collecting worms. They look and feel so freaking cool.

Im also on the last leg of the living ship questline, and once again that eill probably open up yet another can of ship collecting worms lol. It just keeps you hooked

A video that I watched about the size of the building on the freighters instructed you to save frequently because you might fall through the floors and lose your progress if you build to that giant extent
