Great advice! This pep talk helped a lot.

I also saw this advice on reddit, and It sounds like great advice:

You’ll be fine if you follow these tips :]

So it goes like this... You book the job, (any 1A is the same until basic job training, luckily BBOC is pretty similar to BLM) go to BMT and all that yadda yadda yadda. The big day finally arrives and you step off the 10 minute bus ride and you breathe your first breaths as a SAT in the 344th training squadron, oh what great times they are. You move into the E-bay dorm across the street and life is good. You see all your security forces, material management and airborne mission systems friends going to the BX and getting themselves a tv and Xbox/PlayStation/console of your choosing.

TIP ONE: Don't buy a TV/Game console during tech school.

Why not buy a TV and xbox you ask? Well as previously stated in this sub, the academic requirement is 85% to pass. Naturally, if you spend your nights playing xbox and not studying for school, you'll wash out. The reason I know this is fact is because I've seen/personally outprocessed people to new jobs because they can't pass class because they spend too much time on damn video games.

Although enjoyable, SAT week comes to an end and you start your first journey as a career enlisted aviator at FUNDES. Personally, I didn't think FUNDES was fun as the name implies but that's just me. FUNDES class is really only one week long. Class begins on Monday, and the final exam is the next Monday. FUNDES covers a variety of topics, to include types of navigation(VOR, VORTAC, DME, TACAN), basic airplane controls (pitch-yaw-roll), basic cockpit familiarization (common buttons, gauges, and systems), basic center of gravity calculations, different flying AFSC's and such. The class isn't easy, and it's a firehose of information as it's only a week long. It is not hard information to learn, its just a lot. you can prepare yourself by learning about this stuff before you go to BMT, Just google aviation 101 and that should get you on the right track. I studied after class for about 2 hours each night, and made sure to ask questions as necessary. I got a 99% on the test and in high school, I failed algebra 1, and cheated to pass algebra 2 lol. The exam is Monday, retakes are on Tuesday, Wednesday is the prep day for the hypoxia chamber, Thursday is the chamber day, and Friday you get your certificate.

Tip 2: STUDY! 1-3 hours per night is the standard.

Tip 3: Get familiar with aviation 101 and Air Force 1A AFSC's before you go to BMT

After you pass FUNDES, you move on to BLM(in my case it was BBOC but the gist is the same). BLM is a couple weeks long, about 25 days if I remember correctly. Think FUNDES being for all aircrew, and BLM being Loadmaster specific. Here, they're going to get you familiar with the basics of being a Loadmaster. Basic C5/130/17 operations, basic weight and balance computations, basic cargo loading skills, and basic chain/strap/device familiarization. The math in BLM is more difficult than in FUNDES, because you're applying it to compute weight, balance, and moments. The most difficult math I personally use is X/Y*10000-1312/295.8. Seems difficult but you will ALWAYS have a calculator, and always will have the formula to reference. Easy stuff.

Tip 4: keep studying during BLM and do extra practice problems if you need help. Repetition makes perfection.

After BLM, you go off to SERE then Altus I do believe. AFTER YOU PASS BLM IT IS VERY HARD TO FAIL! Unless you spit skittles out of your ass at an instructor, or piss hot for heroin on a drug test (Unfortunately I've seen both of these) you'll be perfectly fine. Honestly, if I can do it, you can do it. None of it is hard per-say, it just takes time to learn.
