I can't imagine how hard it is to go back home and see your friends again, only to realize that they now share a face with people who betrayed and attacked you. It was bad enough when the alternates faces were reminding him of his loved ones, making him want to trust them even though he shouldn't. But then he came back from that experience where everyone around him amplified his homesickness and made him miss his friends more only to find that looking at his friends makes him remember the people who hurt him, that he befreinded anyway only for them to be lost to him forever as he was forced to return to his life like nothing had happened, since no one but him and Shadow even remembered what happened.
