Session Work: Recording Drop Tuned Guitars Without a 7-String (or Baritone!)

I planned on buying a baritone guitar for heavy dropped guitars for session work last year... The pandemic shut that down! As luck would have it I've recently had two sessions where I needed low C's and B's! Here's a recent session I did for an upcoming short movie.

Here's how I've always recorded heavy metal drop tuned guitars. I've always had once guitar set up for a "Kollman Tuning" which is (low to high) C G D G B E. It's an awesome tool of a tuning- try it!! Also you can use a drop pedal or octave divider to get there. This is for anything lower than Eb. I always have a guitar or two living in that "Hendrix Tuning!"

Also I'll be sharing my strategies on how I tackle these sessions, reading music and working with composers. It's one of the most fun things I get to do as a professional!

If you like these please subscribe. Also I'll be continuing this video on my The Working Guitarist Truefire Channel. I'll show the parts in detail and also how I go about using the right plugins!
