The Ingenious Design of Djoser's Pyramid

A Josephs pyramid is unique in many ways. It is a step pyramid, which is quite different from the smooth sided pyramids that came later. Unlike the great pyramid of Giza, it does not have smooth sides. The pyramid is composed of six distinct steps, each one smaller than the one below it. These steps get progressively smaller as they ascend, creating a teeth structure. Imagine a giant staircase reaching for the sky. The steps are symbolic, representing a spiritual journey. They symbolize the pharaoh's climb to the heavens, a journey to join the gods in the afterlife. The pyramid is enormous. It is constructed from massive limestone blocks, each one carefully placed. These limestone blocks were meticulously stacked to ensure stability and durability. Originally, the pyramid was covered in gleaming white limestone, which has since eroded away. This white limestone would have made the pyramid shine brilliantly in the sun, visible for miles around.
