Riding 1,200 miles to Michigan and back on my BMW R65

Every year I make at least one trip to visit my family, specifically on my motorcycle. Most years, I'd go to Indiana, but this year we decided to convene the clan in Michigan.

So I changed the oil on my trusty 1980 BMW R65 and set off across Appalachia and the Midwest to get there.

I saw you filled up with low 89 octane gas. Do you ever use the high 93 octane gas? I have a '79 R45 and I remember seeing a label somewhere to use the higher octane stuff. I live in Spain and I've been on a few long trips. Barcelona-Santander then ferry to Plymouth. the all round the UK to the Start of northern Scotland and back. Another year a trip to Ireland. Same route but detoured to ferry to Cork and the Beara Peninsula and up to the Northern counties border and back. Wonderful memories. 30 years later I'll be taking the same steed around parts of Spain that I haven't been to. Great filming and storytelling on this and your other vlogs. Godspeed, Ian!

Did plenty on mine. Twice a year from N Germany to Manchester Uk, 655 miles one way. Try it in winter. The bike did it thou with pillion
