Astroneer is a fun game about exploring the vastness of space and occasionally choking to death. Unfortunately, it's a little hard to play. In this video, I walk you through the basics of playing Astroneer.

Explore and reshape distant worlds! Astroneer is set during a 25th century gold rush where players must explore the frontiers of outer space, risking their lives in harsh environments for the chance of striking it rich.

On this adventure, a player’s most useful tool is their ability to shape their world, altering the terrain and extracting valuable resources from planets, and moons. Exo Dynamics, the dominant conglomerate in the new field, has opened flights to daring citizens of Earth. Like the Yukon gold rush of old, waves of adventurers sign up to launch themselves into a new frontier, risking everything to seek their fortune in the far reaches of the galaxy. These are the Astroneers.

As an Astroneer, you must find a way to dig out a life on one of a multitude of harsh new worlds. Blast through the terrain to uncover precious artifacts and materials you can use to fuel your quest to become a wealthy baron in the stars. Along the way, discover oddities, raise questions, and uncover mysteries. Perhaps not all is as it seems.

Thank you! I started playing this for the first time last night, and it took quite a while to work out what I had to do, despite being a gamer for 45 years!
Even moving stuff between my backpack and the world didn't work until I realised that I could use the right trigger/R2 to pick up or put down anything, including stuff in the backpack.
However, even with all that, I was still getting frustrated by R2 frequently picking up the wrong thing when I tried to pull the cables around to connect, but you just showed me I should have been using L2/left trigger to move the cursor first!
I shall try that out tonight.

This game was infuriating on first play, had no guides or wiki rely on. Once you get it figured out, its one of the most unique and addictive survival games on console.

Thank you! My sister picked it up and was considering returning it because she didn’t understand it. The game looked interesting to me and was co-op so I convinced her to keep it so we may play together and she bought me a copy. I was about to return the damn thing myself until this wonderful tutorial came along. 😂

Wow. I thought Space Engineers threw you in with no explanation but this game showed me a new definition of "confused" when I tried to start.

I tried this game a couple years ago and had it refunded because it was absolutely frustrating to play. After putting in more than 125 hours into Planet Crafter recently, I decided to give this game another go. Still frustrating! I connected the small printer to the shelter just like I did the oxygenator, then couldn't figure out how to use it. Thanks for this video. Now I know it goes on the ground.
