The saying attributed to Voltaire: "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities" pretty much sums this up.

Even as a child, I was horrified to find that the God invented by the Bible was a malicious serial killer.

This was good and interesting. As an atheist myself and who is interested in the bible from an academic perspective, i find that most Christians don't know the first thing about what the bible says, because they don't read it.

The more you know about religion, the less you believe in it.

When knowledge and truth are your weapons, then it becomes easy to expose falsehood.

One thing I’ve noticed about my Christian associates is that they don’t seek knowledge or try to understand the Bible. They don’t ask questions! Or they know the truth and refuse to accept it

"Collective punishment hundreds of years later" is an apt description of the command, and would be considered unfair, even oppressive by any moral or legal standard.

Very few Christians have read the entire Bible cover to cover. They've only read the huggy-zuzzy, touchy-feely stuff.
So they don't know about such verses as Isaiah 45:7, or Jeremiah 25:33.

Don't they realise yet that the torture and murder of an innocent human wouldn't bring anything good into their lives and will surely not give them access to a good place in the hereafter ?!

I remember Shaykh Deedat advancing many of these very same points years back.. I am so pleased to bear witness to brother Paul and others like him, who have picked up the baton from our late beloved Shaykh.

I am an Ex-Catholic and an ex-monk. And an Ex-Theist, because I have read and studied the „holy“ scriptures extensively and in the honest attempt to take my god seriously, obey and follow him, it just tore me apart psychologically. There are so many contradictions, cruelties, interests and agendas at play in those teachings that are sold to us as divine. And through further historical studies I then found, that for all of us heirs and followers of the religions of the former Egyptian nomad-god Jahwe, one or the other form of violence is unavoidable, because he is a violent god, masked with mercifulness, at least to those who OBEY his ever demanding leaders.

We commit violence against the people whose land and property we want, against unbelievers, against those of other faiths whom we learn to consider stupid and evil, against family members if they don't share our madness. When will we learn to question ALL of our "gods of peace"?
