The Three Body Problem Netflix Adapatation "3 Body Problem" is being released at the end of this month and the early Rotten Tomatoes scores are in. They look.... okay?

In this video I talk about the reviews for the show, and my love of the book and why it might be unadaptable.

Let me know if you'll be watching the NETFLIX show or if you read the book.

I don't care if the Netflix series to be faithful or not, we already got an extremely faithful Chinese TV adaptation last year, it's what every hardcore book fans ever wanted, a page-to-page, word-to-word straight replica of the 1st book.

Three Body Problem let's I loved this book and am about halfway through Dark Forest, which is also very impressive so far.

One critique I heard of the new show that I'm disappointed to hear, is that allegedly the show "rearranged" the reveals and plot points, and supposedly includes plot points from the third book in the first season.. I haven't finished the third book yet so I won't be able to watch this when it comes out even though I was reallyyy looking forward to it. An interesting choice for sure, we'll see if it pays off.

Another great video as always sir

As a non Chinese person, I would have preferred if the show kept the China centric roots. That's an integral part of the saga.
The two D & D nepo financiers are just chasing any story idea that looks like it will guarantee money. They'll butcher it every which way.

I absolutely love the books. Fell in love Cixin Liu’s writing. Ball Lightning, short stories, the Three Body series. Superb stuff. I hope the series isn’t garbage. They have such good material to work with.

I feel the show is a slight improvement to the books because it added more character development than the books. The show is definitely not rushed because there is a whole lot more that happens later and my only fear is it may get too complicated for most the same way the whole multiverse thing is in the MCU. I've seen the whole season and it's good so far. And I love the detailed science part of it all but like I said I don't think the general movie and TV watching audience will be interested in that because you would have to be a nerd like me to really like it. For me bring it on.

I thought they were doing fine right up till Judgement day. Kids on the boat was a bit too much for me. They didn't have to but they did. They cropped the science which is okay for new comers. It doesn't make it too heavy.

When I sold my 400+ books, this series is actually one of the few books I kept, THAT is how much I loved "The 3-body problem". So to me this is an easy decision - not going to watch the Netflix show. But that's because I gave the Chinese show a try and gave up after 3 or 4 episodes. And I felt the actors were doing a pretty decent job there, especially that detective, he was something else. I devoured all three books a few years ago and I'll just keep to that memory. But I'm looking forward to all the upcoming show reviews, I have a feeling those will be more fun. 😄

The thing I hated the most was how they setup the wallfacers so badly at the end, even over all the rushing and inaccurate adaptation, the wallfacers are the most interesting human element in the entire story for me and none are the same as in the books. The more I think of this, the more this Netflix crap starts sucking in my mind.

10:50 I think you know but just in case, if you haven't finished the books yet, put a hold on the Netflix series as it does include few scenes from the second and third book.

WARNING - Netflix 3BP review
(NO spoilers)

6:00 Yes, as the comment said, it was too fast and too slow at few places. It was hard to keep up with the Netflix version even tho I've read the books and watched the tecent version. It doesn't slow down in between those moments and let you think about the gravity of the situation. I can see how it could've been overwhelming for non book readers.

I really would have loved to see the original characters from the book on the show. I don't mind the changes and we already have the tencent version.

I think 10 episodes for s1 would've been better but I get it, 1st season is always a big gamble.

Yeah I wonder to what extent DnD took into account that their reputation is at stake here when making the show. Bc they don’t have the goodwill of the masses now. I’m hoping for a redemption arc but we’ll see….

Finished The Dark Forest yesterday and I can confirm the ending was spectacular 😊

I’ve watched the first two episodes so far, and they are really rushing the book 1 plot. Having the transmission happen in episode two with no build up is a choice. The series is removing any tension for me. And having 5 people stand in for Wang makes it harder to attach to a character. Also, why couldn’t we just use Da Shi, why are we calling him Clarence?

Science in the netflix show reminds me of the Mad TV sketch where Sopranos went to syndication and the edits for content left only conjunctions for dialog. What a mess.

The made one of the greatest adaptations of literarure ever put on tv. George is the one who let everybody down by not giving them anything to adapt at the end The idea that they couldn't adapt this properly is silly.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this being a good book )))) But about ideas versus concepts, consider "Starship troopers" - the book's fundamental ideas are very different from what's presented in the action movie.

Unfortunately I really didn't like this adaptation. There was no sense of dread or wonder. The science was told not shown. they actually did a better job of visually showing the scientific concepts in the Tencent version. Finally the thing I hated the most was how it treated Ye Wenjie. She's the best character in the novel, but she was simplified as an evil, hateful dragon lady.
