Title: Noncommutative Geometry, the Spectral Aspect

Abstract: This talk will be a survey of the spectral side of noncommutative geometry, presenting the new paradigm of spectral triples and showing its relevance for the fine structure of space-time, its large scale structure and also in number theory in connection with the zeros of the Riemann zeta function.

The translation in the subtitles is regurlarly inexact. It would be good to correct it. I have been listening to the conferences of Alain Connes for many years. I listen in the car and I listen repeatedly. First I listened to one which he gave in France on the Music of Shapes and then this one and both are tremendously full of content and splendid in their pedagogy--very elegant in expression. But there always is something left over that one has not quite penetrate and one looks for all the help one can get.

noncommutativity is not limited to the microscopic scale, as Eddie Oshins realized when he worked as a quantum physicist, teaching Wing Chun at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center
