The voice actor for Ego Jinpachi is Hiroshi Kamiya. He is also known for the voice of Akashi Sheijuro from Kuroko No Basket and Takeda Sensei from Haikyuu.

About the "lock off" part, is just a clever way for the show to use the F word and avoid censorship.
In the manga Ego use the F word.

I want to try and explain what they meant:

When you score a hat trick, even in a losing effort, there's a strong sense of personal achievement and validation. Scoring three goals is a significant accomplishment, showcasing your individual skill and impact on the game. It can feel deeply satisfying because it’s a clear and tangible contribution that reflects your ability as a player. On the other hand, assisting in a 1-0 win is important and valuable for the team, but it might not carry the same level of personal gratification. The assist is less direct in terms of individual recognition, and while the team wins, the personal sense of achievement might not be as pronounced as scoring three goals.Ultimately, the feeling comes down to the balance between personal success and team success. Scoring multiple goals might provide a stronger sense of personal fulfillment, even if the team doesn’t win, because it shows your effectiveness as a player on the field.

It's hard to explain, it's a feeling you can't buy. Scoring a hat trick, especially in a high-stakes match, gives you an incredible rush and a sense of accomplishment that’s hard to replicate. Even if the team loses, the personal pride and the adrenaline from such a performance can be unmatched. It's a unique experience, one that comes from knowing you've made a significant mark on the game. This kind of personal achievement and the emotional high it brings is something money can't buy.

I'm glad you picked up Kira's "I'd bet you'd hit some great passes to me." I always thought it sounded condescending a bit, like a "know your place" kind of thing, or even just, "you're good, but not my level of striker good, " but I don't see a lot of reactors pick up on that

Argentina’s Leo Messi, Portugal’s Cristiano “CR7” Ronaldo, Brasil’s Pelé “o Rei”, and France’s Eric Cantona are all real players. Noel Noa is not real, but he is based off France’s Antoine Griezmann with a Poland’s Robert Lewandowski.

Lock off is a play on words not a mistranslation

18:43 Basically it means he’d rather lose but score 3 points rather than win with just an assist. Even though Noa loses, he’s proven himself to be an irreplaceable player on the team as only assisting won’t get one far.

I've been saying he needs earphones since Haikyuu! It's great he'll finally get to hear the show.

Also, BLUE LOCK LET'S EFFING

So glad you started Blue Lock. It’s definitely completely different than most sports animes. This anime is extremely intense, especially the scenarios that play out in the actual games. It’s probably one of the best animes recently in terms of animation quality imo

I'm pumped that you're reacting to Blue Lock!

Quick tip: Don’t miss any dialogues in this show! The narrative shifts with every line especially during monologues, making it unique compared to other sports anime. Its approach to concepts and the sport is truly different.

I absolutely love Blue Lock, I've rewatched it 30+ times 😅

I strongly appreciate that you watched everything. The openings and endings have good imagery.
The bonus part(additional time) is also worth watching, comedic + additional information/depth.

Lastly I wanna say that based on what you said, it seems to me that you have more or less perfectly understood the whole ego thing, having that attitude but at the same time not be "consumed" by it, a balance.

Looking forward to the next episode! ❤

I can’t wait for the rest of your reactions. Blue Lock gives such a different perspective of sports especially after watching Haikyuu and Kuroko

Fun fact: In 2022, the anime of Blue Lock aired a couple of months before the World Cup. Japan changed its style of selecting player and gameplay compared to previous competitions (not like in Blue Lock, but in smaller way). The change has its result shown in that World Cup, where Japan defeated Spain and Germany in the group stage to take the first place. When that happen, Blue Lock become trending as those results were called the "Blue Lock effect" and the image of Ego become trending online as if he's plan was working. Also that the mangaka of Blue Lock helped Adidas to promote the jersey and help the team.

With players, they are real. The only player that is fake is Noel Noa, but it is inspired by a real player. Also, they changed the names of some teams names due to copywrite at least in the English sub. In Spain and Latin America sub, they put the real name of the team but I will add the name of the team in the comments for you. There will be more references to some players but they probably will change their look just a bit unlike in the manga.

And yes, the mangaka and the illustrator did a horror manga before.

37:46 "Once you can refine that ego" strongly describes Ego's way of calling the strikers when he started his speech-- "Diamonds in the rough"

Refining the best diamond amongst all these players-- the one with the biggest ego.

This is cool, I expected moreso just a coaching background which I found interesting for this show. Happy to see how much of it can actually be used in competitive environments! But you have a great artistic perspective too, that's mainly what's coming out at least at the beginning, though I know 4 more episodes are out. Personally I work hard for great aim scores in aimlabs and coach people on aim in many games, but went to school for digital effects and animation so I feel right at home watching this! Subbed.

Looking forward to watching you experience Blue Lock coach.

As for the "Blue Lock: additional time" at the end of the episode (and at the end of every episode), it's essentially some short comedy sketches at the very end made either to contextualize a few things or for jokes. They're generally not that important, but meant to be some fun fluff you can watch.
