I remember my grandparents saying that when one child caught chicken pox, they would bring other children around to either catch it or get exposure immunity. Older people knew it was best to catch the virus while young and healthy because it was more serious when adults caught the pox. Then, the healthy child will often have a more robust immune system and better immunity.
