Snape was able to fool Voldemort because of Voldemort's ego. Voldemort was a total narcissist and believed no one had the power to deceive him. Plus, he didn't understand love. That's why Snape and the Malfoys turned on him. Because Voldemort did something to someone they loved. That's why Narsissa helped Harry in the forbidden forest. She was concerned for Draco and Lucius.
