Thank you for this video. Two questions:

1) How has the Midea lasted, now that it's been about a year?

2) Are the duo tubes permanently attached to the unit, and are just stretched out to attach to the window piece? (I've purchased others and the tubes are the first to rip or tear where they screw into the actual unit)

Hope you are doing well with your home reno.

Hello all, I hate to break it to you, but everyone saying this unit ONLY draws 700 and below Watts is doing you a disservice! I have running one of these for 1 week and a Set Temp of 65 the Unit is drawing 1200 to 1300 Watts all day long. And this is in a normal home. Good luck if you think it is Lower.

Some nice bamboo shades you can roll down to prevent the sun, and if up for it, some expensive thermal windows would make a huge difference.

Toshiba version of this which is exactly the same unit except it’s white I am amazed at how well it works very quiet it starts up quiet and if it needs to ramp up it ramps up. I only negative I have is that the window piece discharge is a monstrosity.

Thanks for the video, I am looking to get this one at costco. Question my vertical (hang) window width is 20 inches, will that fit/work for the hose thing? thanks

Hey there Brad,

Not sure if anyone else is as thorough as you re: all of the precise monitoring you perform related to power usage and air temp. Really impressive. Thank you.

I’m in an apt that has a pre-fit window outlet for portable AC hose. It’s just, what looks like, a “standard”size, single hose outlet that the extendable AC outlet hose slides over. Window itself is fixed and has no ability to use any kind of adapter. I’m stuck with the outlet as is. I notice that this machine is double hosed with intake and outlet combined.

My question:

• Possible you think to fit the hose outlet of this machine OVER my pre-existing hose outlet of my window? Hot air would exit to outside, but the intake would remain inside of my apartment and close to my window.

Brad, Thanks for the helpful video. Do you have any estimate of cycle time for this unit (amount of compressor run time vs fan only/fan and compressor off?). I am going to try to run some tests when my unit gets here, but any estimates are helpful. My application will be in an insulated room, as an emergency replacement for our central AC unit in a grid down (weather related) situation. My central unit runs a cycle of about 25%-33% (Summer is about 20min or compressor/air handler per hour here in FL). I am trying to manage battery power in a limited space in the home but stay cool. There would be no sun available in that situation, hence estimating/testing to see what I can get our of the unit. If you don't have any estimates, no worries but I thought I would ask as your video is about the best for showing real power use in an actual situation. Thanks again for creating it!

Great review, thanks! How many max watts dose this use and when it idles down what watts does it settle at?

Nice video and demo about how quiet the Midea Duo is. Can you do a video about how you put together the Solar inverter/controller part? My home office has south facing windows, I'm thinking of getting the Midea Duo, but before I go that route, I'm going to try UV window film, I read that it may cool the room down up to 8F compare to windows without film. If your sun room/man cave do not have UV window film, may be worth to consider adding that?

I am looking at the 14000 BTU unit as it has a heat pump which can be utilized in the winter to force warm air in instead of out and it is 120v. Do you know what the starting/inrush current was ? I am hearing you can soft start these units so they dont pull so much amps on start-up, is that true ?

Midea wont last :( mine seems to operate but it doesnt cooling... it happen suddenly yesterday... the 2 fans works well and the compressor too but there is no cool at all. Could it be a refrigerant leak or a not working sensor... there is metal material parts on the radiators and it is rusty... i just dont understand why they use metal instead aluminum or copper as it should...

I just bought the Midea 14000 BTU portable for a bedroom with a rackmount server with 32 hdds in it. It is unbearably toasty in here so I thought I'd try this.

I want to run this unit on a 1200VA victron inverter. Curious if you know a way to limit the wattage draw of the unit to stay below 700 watts? LG dual inverter units in dehumidifier mode will draw about 600 watts and was wondering if Midea have similar power draw in this mode. Could you test power draw and maybe power factor? Heard Midea U units have quite a low PF.
