RED WING VS TIMBERLAND - Which Is the Better Boot?

preview_player
Показать описание

These are the two most iconic American work boots of all time, but why is one of them half the price — and does that make it a better option? The main upsides here are that Tims are half the price of the Iron Ranger, they’ve got way better shock absorption, they’re waterproof, they’re grippier, they’re insulated, and they don’t have a tough break in. Red Wings are easier to keep clean, the cork and leather soles mean it molds to the shape of your foot — a meaningful difference, it's a big part of why many guys get so attached to their boots —  and they can be resoled a million times. Which do you think is better?

I own both and love them both. But once it really starts getting cold my Tim’s are my go to boot for these Cleveland winters. Great video man.

I've had my timberland "EK Chillberg" winter boot for 5+ years in harsh canadian winter that drops to -30. its a pretty good boot for the price! and the sole is only starting to peel off at the heel. not bad for around $120 when i got it.

During my roughest times a solid pair of timbs did the job extremely well. Lasted years later then I used them in construction working and they held up. Those boots left an impression on me for sure.

I am 60 have had my Tim’s for decades including 4 trips to the artic where they were my work boots and still no sign of needing a re-sole no contest!

You did not mention the very important fact that the IR’a are handmade in Minnesota, while the T-lands are mass produced in another country.

I own several pair of Timb's I bought about 18 years ago.
I've been very happy with them.
Since my feet have grown a bit, and my arch is starting to bother me, I'm largely retiring them.
Construction, landscaping, mechanical, snow, sightseeing, etc.
I'm about to leapfrog Red Wing completely and buy a pair of Frank's.
Red Wing's cult-like following has always amused & interested me.
No doubt they are quality. Quality materials, handmade USA, cork midsoles, but are they really better than a pair of Timb's functionally? Or is it more status.
I feel like most of the Red Wing fans commenting in this thread are largely white collar middle class.

I 'm Taiwanese, and share some information with you. Timberland is really popular in Taiwan, especially for young people who view Timberland as some kind of outfit fashion. there are almost 100 Timberland outlets and brand counters in Taiwan. the number of Timberland counters is just little bit less than Nike's in Taiwan and that is insane ~

Well, I happen to have the classic 6-inch Timberland boots in leather, heritage style. So they have aged nicely over the 15+ years I've worn them, and I used an wax and oil to maintain. Also I've just had mine resoled by one of the few cobblers that do it here in the UK. They grind down the sole, then stitch and cement in a leather midsole. Then stick/cement on a Vibram lug sole, which can then replaced when needed - so far so good!

Superb reviews! My Tims are my first pair. My first impression was that while they have nice grip & shock absorption, they were too stiff. This changed with wear. They are now as comfortable as sneakers! Warm and dry, even when hiking in slush, as well!

I have the same Timberland boots as in review for 12+ years. They have seen half of Europe, Usa and even Iceland and they still waterproof! Yes, they are looking not so good as in review, but they still do the job.

I've worn my timbs for a few years now through some pretty harsh winters, and ive hiked through some serious snow up in new england, had them sprayed with some waterproofer and they still look great and keep your feet really warm, dont think anything could come close to warmth, that being said I save them just for winter wear cause they're quite well made for that, theyre grippy and theyve gotten pretty comfy over the years as well, that being said I got my self some thursday captains for rest of the year wear

Thank you for mentioning the glued sole of the Timberland boot. I will never get a glued sole boot again; had bad experience with a Wolverine brand boot which was also glued.

I live in NYC, and I have both, I have to admit Timbs are WAY warmer in the wintertime. Also, A lot of people here saying that Redwings are a "working boot, and a real working man boot" Umm, no, mostly hipsters here in NYC go crazy and orgasm all over Redwings and Wolverines, while my father, an elevator mechanic (and many ppl who do manual labor jobs) wears Timbs daily. I do believe they are the better WORK boot, as they are shock absorbant, there is no break-in period, and they can easily be worn during wintertime/outside work, and it's worth their price. HOWEVER, Redwings are the boot to be worn around the city, to go on dates, and just a very good casual boot. Beautiful and way more attractive for sure, but I would not say it's a "real work man's boot." Either way, awesome review of both!

I have the Timberland Pro titanium steel toes with the smooth out leather. Had them now for 8 years and are in great shape. Highly recommend them.

ahhh nice, im from NYC, i own both pair of boots....i love the redwings good look however tims last longer. i ride a Harley Davidson too (all year round) i had my tims 18 years look gritty but the soul is in tac. the red wings the soul wore out in two years and on both the redwings i own as my tim's are still going. redwings are for dressing up, tims rugged is ready for wear and tear.

I use a pair of black Tim’s for kicking around in the winter. I’m in my mid 40’s and the black is more subtle than the traditional tan color. I wouldn’t wear the tan ones, to your point about about an “older” person wearing them, but black works.
