Fighting in the Dark | Musō Shinden Ryu: Shinobu

Shinobu

You feel the presence of an enemy coming toward you in the dark of night. However the original technique of this Kata uses the Saya to make the noise. You put the Saya on the end of the katana, and you hold the Sageo in your left hand.

If your Saya hits the opponent, you can immediately stab him or throw the Saya to make noise. However, you can’t do this as an Iaido Kata every time because you’ll eventually break the Saya. This is why we do this movement instead.

Ahhh I love this Kata during practice but the further explanation with the saya adds so much more meaning!

There is an old G. I. Joe comic where they show this technique being demonstrated by Hard Master. Larry Hama sure knows his stuff.

Fascinating how the full version with the saya is VERY reminiscent of Za Sagashi no Jutsu (also sometimes referred to as Za Sagashi no Hô), which is one of the Sageo Nanajutsu mentioned in certain hidensho of shinobi no jutsu (ninjutsu). 😃😃😃

I think it would be intresting to see him make a kata for a broken katana with even less blade length than a wakazashi like with Melodias's sword and Tanjiro's katana at the end of demon slayer season 1

This katá has helped even with a cane... But I wonder how do I work katá with a cane... I guarantee you my gyro tisci is there but I can't kneel (two plates in one leg) thank you and be blessed
