And guys remember... HR is not in the company to help you. Is there to protect the company from you. Never ever trust them.

My wake up call was being laid off from a company where I worked for 8 years.

“It’s just business” works both ways. Work for a company where you can learn and increase your market value and always keep looking. The moment you have something better, jump ship, and say “it’s just business”.

Two things:

1) I can't stand forced socialization outside normal work hours.
2) They really hate it when the employee is in a position to exercise their at-will right and walks out on them.

That company family thing is a joke. I work my 8-4 and leave to spend time with my family. Always put yourself first because you know the company will drop you when you're no longer an asset.

l already knew everything he said in this video but for some reason it's nice to hear it from someone else

Totally agree...I always tell my wife “they won’t feel guilt about letting you go, why should you feel guilty about leaving them”. When the chips are down companies won’t hesitate to cut you off.

My grandfather told my mum, who passed this down to me. He said, "Never take work too seriously, remember, at the end of the day you are a number to them". Do your contracted time professionally and then get on with your life

I work in HR department and this shit is so true, and the people who work in HR & marketing are completely drowned in their own delusion.

if you aren't married to the boss's daughter or your dad is not the president of the company, you have a shelf life.

A "permanent" job is only permanent until they no longer need you. It makes more sense to work as a contractor charging 2 or 3 times more, meaning you only need to secure 6 months or less of work in a year to match the equivalent salary.

Step 1: Make sure you become a valuable asset to the company, so much so that they don't want you to leave (due to money reasons).
Step 2: Try and leave as soon as possible.
Step 3: Sit back and watch while the true face of the company is unveiled.

I was an intern at a Telco company and had been recently promoted to Financial Analyst. Everyone in my ACTUAL family was really happy for me. I was told by my manager that despite the massive layoffs that were going on at the time, everyone in my (rather small) team was safe. I felt relieved. One week later he told me that the CEO demanded at least one person from every team had to be fired. I was the new guy, so I got sacked. I felt pretty ashamed of myself. This taught me never to trust a company again. The good thing is that this turned out to be the best thing that has ever happened to me. I became a full-time freelancer and ended up making way more money working way less hours. So yeah... fuck corporations.

Boomers will call this feeling "entitled" and that you owe the company for giving you a living.

In accounting terms, employees are not members of the family, they are expenses. If companies can get a better deal out of you, they would.

Yeah, man. Those team building and “optional” activities are bullshit. I would MUCH rather be working or leave early.

I've been saying this for YEARS
no company will be YOUR FAMILY! nothing about saying that is appealing, it's manipulative. Pam working in the stockroom isn't your family member, she's Pam...from stock, and you're a cashier...
