I think part of the genius of “Columbo” was the contrast between the friendly and (seemingly) bumbling Columbo and the guy who says “I’m here to arrest you for the murder of...”. When Columbo gets serious, it’s pretty intimidating. I always felt at least a little sympathy for the perpetrator because hearing those words meant the perp was screwed.

There’s also an epic scene in a “Columbo” episode with Leonard Nimoy as an arrogant surgeon who pushes Columbo too far, and Columbo slams a vase(?) down on the surgeon’s desk when the surgeon won’t stop chuckling. The surgeon stopped chuckling.

Anne Baxter...the most elegant run to cover up a crime...EVER!

This episode has so many nods to "All About Eve." The costume woman earlier in the episode (Edith Head) was the same woman who won an Oscar for her costume work in the movie, Bette Davis' character was "Margo Channing" and Baxter's here was "Nora Chandler, " the newspaper columnist being an antagonist, and a character "Jean Davis" in a nod to Bette Davis. Brilliant all around.

Anne Baxter was one of the best looking killers on Columbo. My favourite of all time is Lee Grant. Both are really pretty.
