Book of Origins〚 *The Birth of Isaac* 〛Pentateuch in Perspective

This week in Pentateuch in Perspective, we dive into one of the most defining years in Abraham’s life as recorded in Parsha Vayyera (Genesis 18-22:24). Although Abraham’s story spans 175 years, the ancient editors focus intently on this pivotal moment—the miraculous birth of Isaac. Through text-critical and historical analysis, we’ll explore how this extraordinary event was crafted and preserved by ancient scribes to emphasize its profound role in the divine plan. With Sarai’s barrenness, advancing years, and seemingly impossible circumstances, the narrative builds a tension that speaks both to the challenges of faith and the miraculous intervention of the divine. Join us as we investigate the narrative structure and editorial choices that highlight Isaac’s birth, anchoring Abraham’s legacy and shaping biblical history.

Love your studies, Ross. Just wanted to posit an alternative explanation on Paul though. As an esoteric Christian (of sorts) Paul is using Abraham as an allegory. The seed is indeed one because it is only the lineage of Isaac that seems to be included, despite Abraham having other wives and concubines. Maybe that helps reconcile this?

Whenever Paul "quoted" from the "Old" Testament, he twisted them in order to create his own religion, what he called "MY. gospel" :

Genesis 15:6 KJV

6)"And he (Abraham) believed in the Lord (Yeh Ho VaH) ; and he (Abraham) counted it (Yeh Ho VaH's promise) to him (Yeh Ho VaH) for righteousness."

of course if Paul had kept reading :

Genesis 26:5 KJV

5)"Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws."

His doctrine of faith alone falls on it's face
