hey im currently 73.1kg and have 22% bodyfat. Im skinny fat but i've seen everywhere that ppl say if ur around 20% bodyfat u have to cut otherwise u will get too fat? I've been taking around 300-500 calories higher than my maintenance for a couple weeks but am i really doing the right thing

or, you could start with a very slight deficit to burn fat, but you could use that time for body recomposition and you can build muscle at the same time by still training hard and getting in enough protein. ofcourse this all depends on factors like age, lean body mass, and fat mass. if you're very skinny, you should bulk as he says here, but if you're truly skinny fat and you're not super skinny or very big, you should consider a body recomposition.

Ok guys don't follow this guy's advice and here's why:

First of all what is a skinny fat? A skinny fat type of person is someone who used to be fat that has later tried to control his eating habits and lost a lot of weight as a result, however a lot of body fat still remained giving it a skinny look on the arms and shoulders with a lot of remaining stubborn fat in the chest and abdominal area.

This guy's approach is a common misconception in the fitness industry. As a skinny fat guy I also tried bulking up but what that did was giving me and even fatter apparence and what I notice was that as I was getting stronger I also progressively started to look more and more like a powerlifter as opposed to a bodybuilder.

It was not until much later that I realised that the problem with skinny fat is an underlying eating disorder, that is what caused me and many skinny fat dudes to get fat in the first place.

The best way to get into shape if you are skinny fat is to first get rid of all the fat and then start building muscles. Not only it will motivate you in the long run but you also fix your eating disorder though consistent dieting first, which will ultimately make clean bulking much easier.
