Lavender town went from nightmare fuel to lullaby, it's wild.

Nah they made it different cause that music scared a lot of children. Idk why it did but it definitely did.

From what I’ve read, in gold and silver lavender town actually became a lot more of a peaceful place after gen 1. In gen 1 it was eery and depressing, but in gen 2 NPCs talk more about how death is just a parting of ways and the spirits are kinder now rather than the usual horror hauntings. It’s possible that with the destruction of a lot of team rocket in gen 1 and Red “purifying” the tower, the spirits within were finally at peace.

So, the new theme kinda makes sense.

nah this isn't a poorly done remake of the theme, the change is the whole point now that the town itself was changed
its a small arc for Lavender town, in the first games its gloomy because the tower is a giant graveyard, in gen 2 its been retrofitted and the town is much cheerier for the sake of it
I prefer the OG myself but this is kinda missing the point

I prefer the Gold version more because it ties in thematically with the fact that the town's changed since Red visited it, and overall is more pleasant as a result.

Both versions of Lavender Town are already good on their own. Red/Blue is iconic and infamous for being too spooky and it brings us urban myths and creepypastas, but Gold/Silver recalls that people just moved on from the dark times after the curse was broken.

For a spooky town in a video game, Lavender Town shows more character development.

It scared a lot of kids back in the day, but being the weird kid it didn’t scare me at all but instead fascinated me a lot turning into one of my favorite Pokémon themes

The point is subversion. It still starts out eerie and then just when you think the old theme is going to drop, instead it’s suddenly a bit more cheerful. This is because the town itself has changed between Red/Blue and Gold/Silver.

A lot of bad takes going in with this meme lately.

Like others have said, the tune changed to reflect the no longer gloomy nature of the town. It’s not haunted anymore. But it still sounds similar to the original.

This is my favorite out of all of the wrong notes memes 🤣

The original lavender theme just made you feel the impact of all those dead pokemon on the people, how such joy and freedom can be ended in an instant, replaced by sadness and suffering, in other words, fresh wounds, though later it seems lavender town has learnt to deal with the deaths and find a way to move on, not just mourning the deaths, but growing from them, as you likely need to

The original was definitely more “scary” as the high pitched notes can give you an unsettling vibe if you play it right

The original does give off a creepier vibe but it fits. You go to a Pokémon graveyard.
