The salt in the alcohol marker solution escapes when it separates from the ethanol. Fungus isn't likely to grow in an alcohol solution. Don't worry.

I'm older than the markers but holy crap those are some old bois

It's actually salination that grows on some markers, not fungus. I've had brand new markers do this, but I wiped them off, and they were fine after that.

I’m older than the markers 😂 oh and older than you too ! My 20 year old acrylic & watercolor paints still work ... but they are so precious to me. I still have some colored pencils from my first year of school, so they are 30 years old in September ! Getting to old pfff but old or not “you are still one of my favorite artist here on YouTube” !

Pro tip (pun intended): when the markers dry out you can still revive them by carefully removing the chisel tip and then pouring a bit of rubbing alcohol. That way you can use it for a while longer before it dries out again. It's worth mentioning that the color will probably be a bit diluted but you can get a bit more use out of it before you throw it away :)

Wow, some of my Copics I just got when they were on clearance have like a crystalize and sticky point. The piece is so cute even with such old markers. I heard they redesigned them yet again.

1) I’m 36 - so the markers make me seem old.
2) He looks like a Duncan to me.
3) I really love the blue! I kept thinking “I hope she makes the background is blue”. But that does happen to be one of my favourite colours, so I guess it’s a matter of personal taste.

I’ve got a set of Prismacolor Design markers from 1994 when I was in art school. Most of them still work as good as new.

the crystallization happened on my copics a few years ago and I didn’t know how to fix it, I couldn’t find many videos on it so I thought it was just happening to me! thanks for making this so I know I’m not alone!

to me these markers are young. i think once something gets around the range of a decade+ less its young and baby.

also as someone with mold experience i can concur with other comments that none of that was mold.

Oh I loved how your character turned out! I think the blue still worked out! That Promarker type was also my 1st good marker I didnt use it too much and it lasted for years ! I wish they still had the extra fine line cap!

This is so adorable!! You just reminded me how I also have some of the original Letraset Promarkers, only 2 of them are dried up which is wild :’D Love the idea of this piece and how you made the colors work!!

Ha! I have a bunch of my old Prismacolor markers from about 20 years ago too-- and yes they still work also! It's weird to see the chisel nibs on yours still seem to be sharp and crisp. The chisel nibs on my old Prismas have blunted significantly. Wasn't sure if it was age or use but must be use. Trying to find Copic colors to replace them because some of the colors are just so pretty!

When I got markers, I used them once and then a week later I came back, and they had all dried up. I was really sad because I only swatched them and then they were all dried up. I used different markers now, the markers I have had were not cheap, so I don’t know why they had dried.
