Chemical Weapons in Ukraine and The Lego Movie

My substack article is below:

Russia is pretty good at chemical defense, mainly because their doctrine stems from Soviet doctrine, which emphasized fighting in a Nuclear and Chemical environment. Chemical decontamination is something Russia knows how to do and do well. If there was even the inkling of a CBRN threat, Russia would at the least require their troops to carry masks. Yet you never seem to see Russian soldiers with masks or chemical protective gear.

"how the Lego movie relates to chemical weapons"
This has to be the most Ryan Macbeth title ever

The fact we have to rarely use our 74ds is actually a VERY good thing

I choose to believe Ryan is keeping his voice down to not wake his tinder date.

Calling out Russias bullshit by pointing out their competency is a tactic you don't see too often

It's actually probably a benefit that they never get to actually do their job cause if they do that means shit really has hit the fan

My bullshit meter pegged when the claim was made that anybody dropped a chemical weapon on a single soldier, rather than a barrack-ful of troops.

Sounds like his date is still sleeping in the other room, Ryan isn't yelling this morning.

As a 42R (bandperson), I had to do a double take at that meme, haha. As 42Rs, we are very lucky to be able to conduct our mission both at home and abroad. Thanks for your content!

I was a 74D for 8 years. I was CBRN when it was still NBC. Loved every moment of doing my job but you're absolutely right. We never got respect or anything. I've recently been thinking of starting some sort of CBRN channel like you do but more focused on my area of expertise so thanks for the motivation!

Yeah, they gained a lot of technical know-how dealing with CBRN handling Chernobyl remediation. If they aren’t wearing masks, it’s not an issue.

Here in Avdeevka region Russia ofently use tear gas granades. They dropping them by drones, so gas masks become part of equipment of every Ukrainian soldier.

Former 74D here, you called it! Although my commander on my second deployment apologise that I would not be able to use my MOS on the deployment.

Dumbest officer I ever met!

As a former 74D (54B before that) I would say that as much as it would be good to get some recognition- we really didn’t want to have to do the decon part of the job. Because if we we’re doing that then something very bad had happened. Another part of 74D at the time was smoke obscurant. I was fortunate enough to be part of a mechanized smoke platoon in Korea and a light smoke/decon platoon in Fort Drum. Although smoke doesn’t work very well in the desert, I wonder how it would do in Ukraine.

God. Dealing with chemical weapons would be a nightmare! I’ve cleaned meth houses and gross shit in a mask and clean suit and I know the military has better stuff but man… 1 little pin hole…. 1 leak…. 1 wrong breath……

The CDTF was a mind-blowing and amazing experience, I would love to see a video covering it in more detail. Us 74Ds need more love!

Sometimes Ryan is in a suit yelling at me clean shaven nice hair other times it's late at night Ryan is whispering to me hair all disheveled in a robe, I like the chaos

Would also like to mention Russia's cold war (present) doctrine was meant to be able to fight in nuclear wastelands. BMPs we're some of the first vehicles to be sealed against radiation
