WHAT'S THE BEST STRING GAUGE? This is one of the questions I get asked most both from my students or during my guitar clinics. In this video, I'll share with you my experience of string gauges and how to choose the perfect string gauge for you.

LaBella 015 on my Jazz guitar. Best tone and I can feel my strings. Heavy pick as well.

I tried a few when I was starting out. Mainly because I was in that group of people who didn't know what the difference was. So I just bought whichever looked interesting. But I played a lot of heavy stuff and thought bigger strings mean't heavier sound. Wrong! I'd settled on thicker strings (11-52), but then decided on a whim to get some lighter ones (10-42) and noticed how much nicer it felt to play. And I couldn't tell the difference sound-wise. So I just kept with them. I'd like to experiment with narrower gauges, but I hate re-stringing and don't want to break them!

What Gauge do you think I should use: 6 string electric 24 3/4 scale guitar in drop D tuning. I play Metal shit. I'm currently using Ernie Ball Cobalt 10-52

10-46 Ernie Balls regular slinky on all of my guitars. It is the best compromise solution between easy bendings and enough string resistance to the plek for fast alternate picking for me. I find myself pulling stings with my pick on 9ers making hard alternate picking difficult.
