There's an old Daniel Tosh special where he says something like "money can't buy happiness... But it can buy a jet ski." Which like I don't want a jet ski but I respect the sentiment.

It's an old saying, that is supposed to mean: you can have all the money in the world, and you could still be miserable. But it's not something to be looked at black and white. Because guess what, not having a lot of money can be the EXACT source of you being miserable. it sure would be nice to live your life in leisure without having to worry whether you can eat tomorrow, but having lots of money is no quarantee that it fixes all your life problems.

I don’t think I believed that money cannot buy happiness until I experienced loss and it made sense. Money can’t bring someone back, therefore money cannot buy happiness.

true happiness doesn't come from money, but peace of mind does come from having access to money, and that peace of mind can lead to happiness. Ergo, money can buy some happiness
