I laughed outloud when I heard his, "like happy, " for the first time. It immediately gave me flashbacks to childhood.

4th grade. Each grade was taking turns going to the auditorium stage to practice for an upcoming school program. Our entire class had to say and sing this nonsense poem and song. One of the lines included, "...happy and gay..." of course, all of the 4th grade boys and most of the girls all began to giggle. The teacher got upset at the disruption, and all of the giggles. Then we got the lecture about it being the historically correct use of the word. Picture over forty kids going along with authority while also looking at the teacher like she was insane. Sure enough, when performed, nearly every parent and sibling in the audience also reacted. 😂🤦‍♀️ (late '70s)
