I would have killed Tarkin where he was standing, then the death troopers, in front of Palpatine. Then apologized for allowing my anger to control my emotions. To which Palpatine would have smiled, and then told me to go find Tarkin's replacement, and deal with the issue he had instructed him to deal with.

Or I would have made Tarkin's life absolute hell, finding new ways to undermine him, letting him do all the work. And then killing him after The Emperor told me to escort him to the brig for his failure. And apologizing to Palpatine for allowing my anger to control my emotions. Which would have pleased him.

It's important to note this annual is often hand-waved due to the inconsistencies it creates with Catalyst, as well as Vader and Tarkin's preexisting relationship from the comics and Tarkin novel. The author of this abomination is Chuck Wendig, a trough-feeding swine who was officially dismissed from writing any future stories for Lucasfilm. So whatever intentions he had with this work will likely remain unresolved.

I always imagined the respect between Tarkin and Vader to have been hard earned and sincere. What one could show in prowess and sheer will in the Force, the other could show with his devious mind and willingness to go to the bitter ends of horror to accomplish the Empire's supremacy. It shall remain so in my head canon. I have spoken.
