A policy discourse with Members of Parliament regarding Environmental Rights of Children and youths and current situation of Climate Justice in order to incorporate it in the policy and legislation has been successfully conducted in Kathmandu. The event was organized by Nepal Youth Network for Sustainable Development (NYN), CWISH, Environmental Rights Network and TDH Germany.

The program was accompanied by 20 Members of Parliament from the upper and lower house of federal parliament, provincial parliament along with the environment and climate change experts, human right experts and the stakeholder’s representative. Even though, the constitution of 2072 B.S highlights the right of citizens to live in a clean and healthy environment as a fundamental right, dearth of laws regarding the environmental rights and climate justice leaves people exposed and without legal safeguards based on their environmental rights.

The successful program was led by Constitutional Assembly member Shanti Adhikari and coordinated by the Environmental Expert and National Coordinator of Environmental Rights Network, Mr. Amrit Devkota.
The MPs agreed it was disheartening that even after eight years of drafting the constitution and initiation of the sustainable development goals; it is concerning that, laws governing the environmental issues are still lagging far behind. Thus, they made a commitment to discuss and advocate for environmental issues in the house of parliament.
