Warren Buffett's perspective on dividends is that they may not be beneficial if a company has better uses for its capital to promote growth. Instead of focusing on dividends, he suggests investing in companies with growth potential. However, some investors see dividends as a way to generate income. It's possible to create a portfolio that generates a dividend income of $50k-70k with a $1 million investment.

Dividends are not always bad. It depends upon the business of the company. If company invest back that money in business and in future incurs losses it will negatively impact the stock price or even in case where additional money is invested but it doesn't generated additional return or where the business is at its saturation level and no possibility of further growth is expected, in all such cases paying out dividend is better option.

Both dividends and capital gains have their own purposes in terms of returns to the share holders. Company cant have much control over its stock price (consider a downward market) but the board do have control on how to use profits, paying dividend or buyback of shares is one of the strategies applied by the companies. Regarding taxation part, we never know if capital gains get abolished and merged with income tax slab (has already happened with dividend income in last 3-4 years !!)

before saying this think when the return on reinvestment is less then the cost of capital, at that time its better to pay dividend rather than reinvesting
