Antiviral drugs can stop an infection after it has started. In this lecture we discuss antiviral drug discovery, how some currently licensed compounds block different steps of the viral reproduction cycle, and the origin and mechanisms of drug resistance. You will also find out why hydroxychloroquine failed for treatment of COVID-19 and what other antivirals have been tested.

Thank you so much for your highly informative video Dr. I must ask, you mention LJ1001 in your lecture but when I search for any further information on the matter, nothing meets the key phrase “LJ1001” what would be the cause of this, and what phase is it in for trials for instance?

Thank you you are so clear but about hydroxychloroquine It’s not so toxic you’ll just have to have an EKG and measuring the QT it is safe I think it is a shame that they do not carry a try with the camostat Gilead interference?

A very sobering insight into an often long and futile effort to meet these challenges. It is similar to the war on cancer. Once we got into we realized how difficult it actually is.

Another excellent lecture! Dr. Racaniello, please google this: " The coronavirus may sometimes slip its genetic material into human chromosomes—but what does that mean? " it's interesting.
