That boat is the equivalent of an homemade go cart.

We executed a rescue at sea, my friend was on watch and spotted an object several hundred meters away, he called our”MAN OVERBOARD” to the bridge and we were turning at speed as we came to a complete stop. A warship will turn pretty quickly and slowed up to the “object. It was two fisherman in their life boat. They had been adrift for two days before we spotted them and their fishing boat had sunk and they were able to detach their raft and float to the surface. Both had moderate injuries

Imagine being lost at sea and getting rescued by a Disney cruise.

They obviously weren’t stranded from a boat. Looks like and illegal attempt at crossing.

I actually did hear this one year. It was on a carnival cruise and my brother pointed out way in the distance using my dads binoculars a sailboat and when we told the crew our ship went and picked them up. Turned out the sailboat got stuck in a storm, lost the sails and were floating for a couple days.

It’s Disney, so they charged the people in the boat $7000 for the rescue

On my first cruise, we picked up Cubans.
Cruise lines have a maritime duty to notify the closest coast guard.
If they are too far away, the cruise ship must take them on board as long as it doesn't put the ship or passengers in harms way.
The Cubans we held in the infirmary and were the first ones off at the next port (detained there as well).

That was a bunch of illegal migrants. That is why the CG picked them up and they did not go straight to port.

Being lost at sea with nothing to drink while seeing all the water around you sounds like a special kind of emotional torture honestly

My first cruise I ever took we save 4 fisherman lost at sea. We left Mexico and was going to the Cayman Islands and we heard the ships horn go off and a announcement about the law of the sea of someone was in need of help u have to help . Come to find out they was lost for 3 weeks and the Cayman coast guard called off the search a week before we found them. Once we got to the island everyone news and tv reporters was waiting. I’m glad they all made it alive. For some reason I want to say they set the boat on fire so it would sink.

I like to think the little boat was just chillin' and the big ship just went: "Congratulations! You're being rescued, please do not resist"

If you hear a call for 'Mr Sands' in a theatre it is the fire alarm.

The US Navy uses “Oscar” for man overboard. In the phonetic alphabet that was used, “Oscar” represents the letter “O” for overboard.
My Uncle Oscar was a sailor in the Navy during World War Two. His sea stories inspired four of my cousins and me to become sailors.

Simular thing happened on the Regal Princess, except it was a plane that went down. Little plane, only had two people in it, a pair of fishermen who were doing some sport fishing. Cool story to tell, went on that ship again about 2 months ago

I'm intrigued by this, we were on a dive boat one year in the keys, we found a small fishing boat sank and we rescued a single fisherman. The coast guard was called but refused to take him fearful it was a cuban asking for amnesty because if he found himself on a coast guard vessel they could then claim amensety. On a private dive boat he could not claim it.

MOB or Man Overboard is a common Emergency on a ship. It is practiced often by the crew to make sur the reaction time is as quick as possible. In the Royal Canadian Navy we call the floating doll ‘’Oscar’’ because when we go to Rescue Stations (which is the state of the ship for this particular emergency) we will raise the international signal Oscar as per NATO rules

On the last day of my very first cruise, we were told not to come to the front end of the ship for a bit while the crew rescued a stranded boat full of people. My husband and I figured it was because they were unknown and could have been dangerous. We later heard someone mention that they were sailing near Cuba and got taken away with the tides and got lost or something.
I hope they got help because I don't believe we let them on board.
