Generac generators are usually quite reliable, but there can be problems with these generators as well, like noise for instance.

Obviously, the first thing to look at if your Generac generator won't start, is to check to make sure it has gas.

Yeah, not rocket science, I can check this.

You should also make sure that the switch for the generator is fully in the on position. You can also check the spark plug wires, to make sure they are all connected and not frayed.

This is something that I can handle for sure.

If the Generac generator is running rough, it may have a fuel mixture that is off, in this case you should call Generac generator professionals. They will have to check the fuel mix.

I don't want to have to call anyone in.

Well, hopefully you won't have to, but some problems may require it. For instance a stuck intake valve may need the services of professional who knows about these generators.

A problem like water in the gas can be fairly easily remedied however, all you have to do is empty the tank and refill it with gas.

I am hoping that the problems I am experiencing can be remedied pretty simply.

generac 8kw gh410 starts sometimes (auto or manual ) but sometime won't when does start it starts right away (no cranking long) runs perfect once starts. Thanks Bob

These generators are totally unreliable. Propane powered, 2 years old, oil changed every 140 hours, still this thing wont start. Try getting a repair man to come out ! HA there are no repairmen

I have a Genrac 17 kw generator that is supposed to burn about 2.7 gallons of propane per hour. We recently had a hurricane come through and lost power requiring me to use it for about 14 hours. In that time, we burned about 100 gallons which definitely exceeded the 2.7 gallons per hour. Does this sound like a regulator issue? We did have the gas company come out and they didn't detect any leaks. When the generator is running I can definitely smell the gas, but not when it is off.

I have a brand new generac 20K guardian Evolution and the first time my power went out my generac did not come on - showed a code 1100 overcrank so the installer came out and reset it.  Now on the weekly check it was not coming on once again code 1100 overcrank.  My installer tells me its water in the gas line....I told him bull shit.  Anyone else having this issue?

Have a 22k natural gas generator that runs rough but then levels out. When it shuts off and you check the air box there's water in it!! What could be the problem? Could there be water in the gas line? We just had it re-plumbed so the gas line is above ground and water is still showing up in the air box!! Don't know what to do...help!!

my Generac Q-55G, i tried to started it 2 times, it cranked but did not start, now the start button does nothing, no click, no pump noise nothing, the battery s are good, the inverter / charger, no lights nothing, but the in side of my 1999 tropical is fine, lights work, everything works, and starts right up, what gives, before when i tried to start it, i did hear noises in the generator, like clanging, something like that . what gives ? cant find this on google, .

i have a 25k generac done the maintenance on it now it throwing a code sd low coolant but everything is good any idea?

If over crank is the problem change the plugs from champion to NGk. Champion plug are not reliable. I installed many of these generators and the biggest problem is plugs and proper maintenance. If the generator is hunting for the proper speed odds are it a bad regulator.

The generator in my motor home will start and run for maybe 8 to 10 seconds.  The generator is full of oil and the motor home is almost full of fuel.  Any ideas anyone.

I have a 16 kW propane fueled standby air-cooled generator.  The governor or motor went out last year causing it to hunt.  I replaced that part when local repair rep refused to come to my house with the part and instead wanted me to pay time, mileage, and troubleshooting (when I told him what was wrong) for TWO trips.  Now the generator works and runs, exercises, etc.  But a power outage last night had the generator start and shutdown when power was restored but it never would switch and allow the generator output to power the house.  I tried the manual handle, it moves but the power never switched.  I checked the two fuses in the panel, both are good.
